Shared access

The possibilities of HPP, without owning the machine.

Toll processing means paying a provider to process your products. We are investigating how a shared-access model could serve producers in the South West.

A proposed route from question to evidence

  1. Tell us what you make

Describe the product, current challenge, intended market and approximate volume. Unknowns are welcome.

  2. Assess suitability

Explore recipe, packaging, microbial targets and quality with appropriate specialists before deciding what to test.

  3. Scope a trial

Agree the provider, samples, method, validation work, cost and responsibilities before any trial is booked.

  4. Evaluate the whole journey

Consider chilled delivery, processing, pack drying, labelling, boxing and onward dispatch. Establish who would provide each service.

  5. Check the business case

Compare usable shelf life, yield, waste and realistic sales opportunities with all the added costs.

  6. Shape regional capacity

Use evidenced demand to assess a South West service: location, equipment, utilisation and investment. No facility commitment is implied.

This is the route we are exploring, not an available regional processing service. Provider availability, charges, minimum batches and responsibilities must be agreed for each project.

More than a machine

Before processing

Recipe development, suitable packaging, trial preparation and controlled chilled transport.

Around the pressure cycle

Product handling, traceability, pack drying and checks on packaging integrity.

Back to your customer

Labelling, boxing, storage, picking and dispatch, where these services are available and agreed.

The questions worth asking

What might it cost?

Costs depend on product, pack, volume, cycle and logistics. Include development and validation costs, not just the processing fee.

Can a small producer take part?

Small-batch needs are part of our demand assessment. Minimum quantities and access terms are not yet set.

Could we develop a new recipe?

We are exploring a development kitchen as part of the proposal. It is not currently operating; producer needs will help shape its scope.

What is available now?

An initial conversation and the Under Pressure summit on 5 November at Eden. Any specialist support or trial must be scoped and agreed separately.

Start with a conversation

You do not need a finished technical brief. Tell us what you make, what you want to improve and where you would like to sell.
